We are who we say we are.

We Are What We Believe We Are.

(Assemblage of found wood and glass and bought components)
“Belief is nothing but a more vivid, lively, forcible, firm, steady conception of an object, than what the imagination alone is ever able to attain”. David Hume
The title of this piece is a CS Lewis quote, I liked it because it puts into a nutshell the ideas behind the work. No matter how much I read, how much I try to discover and how much I try to understand a definitive image and understanding of who I am eludes me and yet I have an intense feeling of self, oneness, especially when I consider what are important issues to me. The disparate elements of “We are what we believe we are” mirror that elusive quality but imply the constructive process of being from learned knowledge, meta-narratives, history, institutions and personal experience through it own mechanistic qualities and the illusory knowledge of a maker and its reason for being.
